In today’s wealth management landscape, Affluent and wealthy African families face different sets of challenges as they plan or propose business succession, wealth distribution and transfer.
As the great wealth transfer from Baby boomers and the Silent generation is currently ongoing, it is important to appreciate existing realities of wealthy African families where succession planning and wealth distribution have been almost impossible to achieve as a result (among others) of cultural, traditional and native laws impediments.
In African cultural context, it is argued that Succession planning and wealth distribution is deeply rooted in native traditional values and its social structures. It appears a common reality is that the first male child usually assumes leadership and succeeds the Patriarch or Matriarch, potentially in conflict with business governance, intentional and strategic succession as well as wealth distribution planning.
Further to above, in situations where this conflict arises, there is no progress made as beneficiaries of the Patriarch and Matriarch estates become embroiled in disputes, escalating conflicts and controversies that in essence tarnishes and makes redundant the legacy and wealth of the family.
Our Wealth Webinar 5.0 will x-ray how successful multi-generational wealth planning by wealthy African families can be achieved within contemporary African societies as well as what impact (if any) diversity and inclusion, that is female and rising generation empowerment can play in context of pursuing successful generational wealth for African Families.
